Sonnymoon, "Run Away", & "Golden Age"

So I have been working on a response for Dane Orr and Anna Wise since they posted "Run Away" on Miscellus last year. Since then, the duo has become Sonnymoon, and has been blowing the minds of Boston, and are now taking over the minds of earthlings everywhere. Here is my first animation in response to "Run Away" which has expanded my imagination to a whole other level. It took me a few months and many sleepless nights to concieve this piece but I think there will be so many more like it to come.

Like my other side collage projects I work on I feel that I had alot of fun and just all-around enjoyed every second of putting this together. Check it out:

Also since last year Sonnymoon has been making magic themselves and has last week just released the debut album Golden Age

You can download it fo'free here:

I insure that you will be bumping this album.

I would also like to say that I am proud to see how far these two have come, and thank them for their support and inspiration as a friends/fellow artists. Thanks for that post guys!

Back In the Swing of Things!

It has been a long wonderful summer, and now that I have settled back in Boston I am back on track with making work.

Soon to come:

Sonnymoon animation!

Because all of the work which I was making in response to Sonnymoon, Sam, and Ryan was lost over the summer, it is going to take me a bit of time to respond to these, but it is possible that some responses may be up sooner depending on what medium I choose to respond in.

Sorry for the delay, but things are back in order.

Since their last submissions I have noticed that Sonnymoon has been on their grind and killing around the Boston area. Check them out:

Rockin' Ry's has some new tracks as well:

Also, I have been putting together a flickr, on it is some of my work from this summer and fall. Check it out:

Nick Lore:

1.A meeting with somebody.

Par excellence. A place for us. Us being me and you, or me and me. Our meeting point is what makes the time apart something to look forwards too. Our meeting point is what gives me a reason to earn my money, if for a coffee or a sandwich. The time seems to go so quick but I wouldn’t have it another way, just one day a week that lasts four hours.
I hold your hand as we approach; I hear your weekly voice and feel the skin that only comes to those who wait.
Our meeting place is in the mind, our meeting place is in the heart, our meeting place is something to repeat.
No work of art can explain a meeting place, no painting or poster. We’ve reached our usual spot, and before you know it I’m off again till next week.
Simple, and easy. Why make my place, our place, complicated.
Vis-à-vis.

Rendezvous
2. A place arranged for this

I hate to be the bearer of bad news...

I know many of you are awaiting responses but I have come to apologize once again for a. my bad luck with technology and b. my bad luck in general. As I was working on some responses my computer crashed loosing all evidence of any work that I had from late last semester, including some Miscelllus workings. Although I have come back to the north east I have come back to living with no internet connection. I will do my best to post submitions and submit responses but I can not promise much unless I use some friend's internet connections. All will be well in September!

Apologies!

Apologies to Dane & Anna (now known as Sonnymoon), as well as Sam and Rockin Ry. It has been a long few weeks of review boards (or finals) for me and I have really spent little time focusing on Miscellus. It's Summertime and the livin's easy now, so I'll get to postin' real soon.

Just a reminder that anyone can submit a response to any of the posts. Comments for the artists are always a big help as well. If anyone is interested in being a designated responder like myself, let me know. I'm down for letting anyone in who wants to contribute.

Thanks!
Lauren Santorio

Response to Bo Pedersen Geel's: Afternoon, March*

I found responding to this poem both easy, but yet extremely difficult. Because I can relate to the setting of this poem, I found myself trying to hold back as much as I could from depicting the streets of Schenectady, but I found that no matter how hard I tried, and how abstractly I tried to respond to the piece, my representations seemed to have Schenectady within them. I guess within all of my pieces, my surroundings of where I grew up are represented only because I know that environment so well, and it is the place where I have spent most of my life thus far. I felt a sense of longing within the piece, and myself also longing to be in the environment which the author has set up. I found myself picturing what this specific place looked like a few months ago. I went through a number of alterations with these, and it took me a number of tries to finally choose the four of these pieces to respond with.

It would be interesting to see how someone who is not familiar with this background responds to this poem, so anyone with time on their hands should.

Bo Pedersen Geel: Afternoon, March*

Afternoon, March*

Along Nott Street
dirt lays on the snow
like a five o’clock shadow.

Up the hill, detail defers to
distance: colors mute to abstract,
objects to archetypes.

An old man
(his walk the whisper
of a sauntering gait)
moves down Grand Boulevard
with a dog and stick.

I watch his arthritic
toss, the dog’s quick,
joyous leap across
the crusted median

And think, for an instant,
not of weariness,
winter, or work;
but of sweet, wet air and
mindless motion.

Across the way,
from a second-story
porch a cardinal-red shirt
whips in the wind,
shouting of color to come.

*(Looking out the 5th floor
window of Ellis Hospital
– early 90’s)

Response to Andy Kissner's Obituary

I came across some found images last semester and was wondering how I could collage them. Here are a few which I have used to respond to Andy's poetry with. I felt that Andy's poem had a strong representation of youth, so I went with that feeling.

All of these are collages, made up of found photographs. The first one also has crushed tobacco leaves on it.

I also have one more image that has started a few more collages circling around this same idea. I can post the others when I am back in Boston, but for now here's this one.

More to come soon Andy!

Janine Chai needs Responses!

"Hey everyone!
I need your help. I am currently starting a project whereby I am making a book of love letters, BUT I honestly cannot make up so many letters on my own! Soooo, this is where you come in... it would be great if everyone can write at least one letter and send it to me (multiple would be cool but one is good). It could be a letter to someone you like/d, love/d, a secret crush, a partner, whatever. The point is to write what you feel or felt, whether they broke your heart or changed your life forever, tell them what you always wanted to and never could or tell them all the things you would like them to know, even if they already do. The letters could be anonymous or specific, its your choice, just put your thoughts and feelings to pen and paper and send em to me. But yea, it would be most appreciated if you could take some time and participate, who knows you might even feel better after you've done it :) P.S. Tell your friends and if they do one email it please! and this just came to my attention...i am going to put a dear .....(←insert name here) at the top of the letter so just put whatever name you want after dear, even if its some made up name or just anonymous. Thanks a mil!! XOXOJanine/J9"

Y'all can post some love letters for Janine in comments or email them to me and I will forward them to her. If you would like me to post them on the blog to get some feedback just say so! Thanks!

Andy Kissner: Obituary

"My name is Andy Kissner.

I drink heavily, smoke cigs, lose friends, and alienate people. I admit to the truth, I am the best at what I do.

I run and play tennis. I take great offense at anti-smoking advertisements, and find most depictions of marijuana use in the mainstream media to be grossly inaccurate.

I dabble in the art of the DJ, and occasionally self-identify as a writer.

I am a recovering something.

I die at the age of 27 due to complications arising from an utter lack of ambition. I leave behind untold scores of lovers scorned, and a whole host of bad debt.

You've never met me, and that's probably for the best. I would have fucked you over.

I was never given the chance."

Lauren Santorio's Book

These are some images that I am looking for some responses to. I have been working on a book for an assignment which involved passing around three disposable cameras. I have collected a number of images and now I am looking for some text or dialogue to go along with them. The text can either be poetry, dialogue between people/objects in the images or even random thoughts that occur to you when you look at the image (anything at all). Maybe certain songs come to mind or scenes from different movies. Lemmie know whats up!

If you do decide to give me some feedback you could comment, or email me.
Please include any sources as to who wrote whatever it is that you send. If you want to be anonymous that's cool too.

Response to Peter Shapiro

Apologies to Peter, but I decided to take some time to respond to his post. It took me a while to figure out how to respond to his napkin doodle, but I began thinking in class the other day how often people doodle on whatever it is that is in front of them. It started as I was in class staring at a Coke can, and then found myself drawing Coca-Cola Mountains? It's amazing when you look at people's sketchbooks, and even at just random notes how much imagination you can find.
I decided to look through my notebooks from last semester and see if there were any sketches. I usually just find myself making small designs in corners of pages, so here are some that I came across. I know for a fact that Peter and I are not the only people who do this. I have heard of art therapy classes where people draw lines and shapes to express their emotions, and even some types music therapy. I think I want to make a collection of these at the end of each semester just to try to recollect on where my mind was during these times.

If anyone would like to add to this I think that would be awesome. Or if anyone has any cool techniques for creative therapies?

Peter is a student at Schenectady High School. Peter likes to draw and is very interested in modern & abstract art.

Response To Chelsea Lauzon's Photography

Lauren Santorio:

Chelsea's one image of water running in a water fountain inspired me to do these paintings. All of them are a mixture of oil pastels, watercolor, and India ink. The three of them are fairly large. I have been thinking about making several more of these and connecting them together to make a large landscape.
